The Story Behind CertHound
Built by a former DigiCert engineer who watched teams drown in certificate management — and knew there had to be a better way.
After years at DigiCert working on enterprise TLS infrastructure, I (Will Keel) saw the same pattern over and over: mid-market teams with 5 to 200+ servers had no good option for certificate lifecycle management. Enterprise TLM platforms were overkill and overpriced. Spreadsheets and calendar reminders were a disaster waiting to happen. When the CA/Browser Forum passed Ballot SC-081 — cutting certificate lifetimes to 47 days by 2029 — I knew the problem was about to get exponentially worse. Manual renewal simply won't scale when you're rotating certs every six weeks. So I built CertHound under DeadboltHQ. The agent is open source because I believe trust starts with transparency. You can read every line of code that runs on your servers. The dashboard and alerting platform sit on top, giving teams the visibility they need without the enterprise price tag.CertHound is built for the teams that keep the internet running — the sysadmins, DevOps engineers, and security teams who don't have time to babysit certificates.
